Awareness Through Movement®  classes are a low cost way to enjoy the Method.  People of all levels of physical fitness can do them.  It is challenging at times but not strenuous, in fact one is encouraged not to force anything, the motto being “less pain, more gain”. 

Often we are experts already, at pushing or finding pain. Our goal during a lesson is to find a different way.  In an ATM class you are encouraged to listen to “how you move” in order to find new ways of moving that are easier and different than you might normally move, yet always within comfort and with an attitude of curiosity. 

If something is uncomfortable, then one can even imagine the movement, a trick musicians and athletes often do to improve their own performances.

 Tune into Yourself with Awareness through Movement

During a class the instructor will verbally guide you through a sequence of movements that may seem familiar but are often done in unfamiliar positions and some unfamiliar movements done in familiar positions, allowing an ease of movement that appeared impossible before, to become possible.  You break habits of moving and thinking , which may be causing you discomfort or restricting your ease.  You  may be surprised with what you discover.  There is usually no demonstration of the movement, so that you are not held to some visual idea of what the movement should look like, but are able to learn how to listen to your body and gain greater self awareness and control over your own body use.

Benefits from doing group lessons or private sessions range from improved coordination, balance, strength and relaxation.
